Whispering Dreams

Each morning I wake-up with the whisper in my ear to “Write.

It is a silent whisper that only I can hear and compels me to keep following my dreams. I have been blessed to work from home and navigate my own hours around my family. It is not my dream to always be balancing the books, chasing after the receipts,  and reviewing proposals. I do it for my family and it helps to keep our business running at full steam.

My dream is always in the back of mind  and it waits for its scheduled time to appear like clock work where I can spend a moment in my own world. A little piece of space and time that is just mine.

Dream List

I have set goals for the coming months my biggest is to publish my book. I am at a crossroads between following the conventional route – hoping a publisher will grant me a pair of ruby-red slippers  with a book deal. The other thought is throwing caution to the wind not waiting for the blessing of a publisher and follow the yellow brick road to self-publishing. In the end I know both will lead me to the safety of home with the knowledge that I put my heart and soul  into my book.

I have become a firm believer in one project at a time and in the spring I want to host my own short-fiction contest with an actual monetary sum to gift to another fellow writer. The devil is in the details and I am slowly working out the kinks in the plan.  In the New Year there will be an announcement and I hope all of you wonderful creatives participate.  It is my small thank you for sticking with me all of these years!

Last but not least I have decided to begin my own Etsy business. I am in the stages of testing and research before I share it with all of you. I want to make sure everything I create is beautiful and worthy for this world.

Each day I want to feel that I have committed to living in this world and not just idling my time away.  The older I get I begin to feel an urgent need to do more and enjoy the life that was meant for me.

I want to know what dreams are whispering in your ear? Do you have a plan of action?

  1. Oh, I have too many. 🙂 I’d like to send the first half of my WIP out for beta in the next week or so. I’d like to gift the completed draft to a special person for Christmas. I’d like the kind of unlimited funds I’d need to go to school as long as I want to… so I guess I’ll just have to go ahead and finish writing so I can win the Giller, right? 😉 (ROFL)

      1. I think their might be a little bit of rum in that crystal ball of yours…. Thanks, Belle. 🙂

  2. Hi Belle! I like your plan of action! Mine are whispering, “Call out to your muse and write more!” However, as you know, this isn’t always easy. Obligations, both personal and familial, take precedence. I wish you success in your new endeavors! 🙂

  3. I’m more of a let’s see where things take me sort of person. So my action plans are more about preparing me to be ready for whatever life throws my way than about working toward a particular dream. Maybe I should dream more, I dunno. All I know is trying to force myself to have dream big makes me nervous and confused. Better for me to go with the flow and do what I can along the way.

  4. Those voices tend to speak with a truth we are not always willing to admit to. The challenge is in doing what you are doing, namely devising a plan and executing it. I wish you all the best but would like to suggest that there may be a third path. Rather than going straight to the book maybe you could use a long list of shorter published pieces as items with which to clear the path to the book. Along the way you might encounter a decent agent along with those who could assist in the production and distribution process.

  5. I need a plan. I’m drifting lately. It’s been good – I needed to drift for awhile. Let that old inspiration come when ever it felt like it. But now, I need to pull the canoe ashore. but it’s so hard.. it’s so lovely out here floating, but then as you say: life might just float on by me!

  6. I just signed up for coaching on how to make more money from my creative endeavors. But, its on hold until the musical I’m rehearsing for opens. I’m moving forward in one area, the musical, but at a standstill in another, voice over.

  7. I’m thrilled for you! This post inspires *me*, too—greatly—and I hope simply putting these thoughts ‘out there’ gives you encouragement as well. What you do has great value, and it takes much love and determination to keep doing the work, let alone finding the kind of fulfillment that sharing it can bring. Cheers to you all the way!
