Dreaming the Day Away

My husband and I made a pact after staying our first frigid winter in Edmonton that we would save for one sunny destination each year. We vowed never to go through a full winter without  a break ever, again. The lack of vitamin D, staring at the grey skies, and getting excited over the weather going up to -5C is depressing.

It is enough to drive anyone crazy!

It is with excitement I will be packing my bags for fun in the sun and lounging poolside enjoying the warm breezes of Punta Cana. I am also taking A Blogger Tip A Day with me. Since it is a 365 day project it means that there is no time to stop blogging.

The tips I have are wonderful! But many of them cannot go on vacation with me!  I will not be cleaning closets, organizing fridges, and hopefully not battling a pesky virus.

However, I would love your vacation tips!

  • What are your favorite things to pack?
  • How do you maintain a fitness routine?
  • Eating healthy on vacation – is it possible?
  • Is there a certain drink or food I should try?
  • What are your favorite activities and things to do on vacation?

Please share your tips with me in the comments or if you are to shy to comment please feel free to drop me a line at

If your tip is chosen your name will be placed  a monthly draw for a twenty-five dollar I-Tunes gift card. So get those tips rolling in!

What are your favorite vacation tips?

  1. O’ I’m so jealous!!!! Pack light! I love bringing sarongs & bathing suits. Comfy shoes….I find that there is no need for exercise due to the fact there is usually the ocean or a pool in which to swim. Remember you are on vacation…Relax and have fun!!!!!

  2. I hope you have a GREAT TIME!! I love built-in bra tops (like camisoles, etc.), my zip-off hiking pants that are still nice enough to wear to all but the nicest restaurants, a HAT and comfortable shoes. And you’ll be on vacation… sit on the beach, drink adult beverages from sun-up to sun-down, dig your toes into the sand and…. relax. Listen to the waves.

  3. Great Post – Enjoy Some Fun in the Sun!!! Soak it up and Share it Please:) When I travel I tried to walk as much as possible. I spoil myself one or two times on meals and usually end up eating healthy anyway. Happy Friday:)

  4. Make sure you have sunscreen available whenever outside, and lipbalm with sunscreen. (I got a horrible sunburn on my lips a few summers ago during a motorcycle trip). Also, take lots of pictures and have a backup camera source just in case! Have a fabulous time! Kat

  5. Alas, it is a very long time since I went anywhere! I do remember the tip to take a spray bottle of Evian wherever I went. That made a big difference. I love to seek out the history in a place, wherever it is. It makes the place irresistible…

    1. Can you still buy that? I remember seeing it advertised one summer and that was the last of it. Perhaps, I will just bring a spray bottle for the mist look 😉

I love seeking out the history of a place! I hope I don’t disappoint you! I will see what I can discover!

  6. Just stumbled across your blog and I live in Edmonton as well. We just got back from a two week trip to Florida. The first week was warm and sunny, second week, not so much, but it was great to get away. We did not even go to Disney, just kept it easy on the beach.

  7. I can’t travel without my iPad with a passel of downloaded books. Like Hilary above, I never check bags and pack pieces that mix and match. I know you will have a blast, and I look forward to reading about it.

  8. I’m jealous! Its not that cold in Seattle, but it will be gray till July. When I head off on sunny vacations, I always pack a non greasy sunscreen, I walk every day for exercise and if you’re going to the Bahamas or Miami, I always have a Mojito.

  9. I hope you have a great time! Since I am married to a man who believes that it is reasonable to consider ceding Alaska to the Russians during the winter and simply taking it back in the spring, we don’t live anywhere nearly as cold as your home, but we are looking for sunshine down here in the Southern United States, too.

My favorite thing to pack anywhere is my kindle; with upwards of 100 books on it now, or at least accessible by the Cloud, I will have plenty of reading material at hand! I also bring its charger, since the charger works on both my Kindle and my cell phone. Exercise usually sorts itself out on beach vacations; you tend to play in the surf and walk more than you would at home, anyhow.

    1. Thank you for the tips! You really do have more time to exercise and I suspect boogie boarding is a good core workout.

Tell your husband not to worry about the Russians I have my eye on them 😉 lol.

  10. On vacation I love to walk – walk around the vicinity, take a bus and then walk some more. What better way to absorb the atmosphere of the place I am visiting.

  11. Sounds wonderful to get away…enjoy your days just being together…the living, loving & laughing moments. Anything else you pack is fluff…<3
A safe journey & return with many stories.
