Sleeping Yoga

It was just this past weekend that I signed-up for a free trial membership with Yoga Glo and gave it a whirl on Sunday night.  I waited until the mice where slumbering and my husband had adjourned to the basement to embrace his lazy boy chair.  I set-up my yoga matt, flipped on the fireplace,  and then selected the best yoga option which seemed suitable for me.

As I moved into the poses I began to relax and by the time I had moved to the floor poses I began to feel very sleepy. It was in the middle of a body twist in which I let out a very loud yawn and decided to move into goddess pose for just one moment.

An hour later my husband reappeared from his man cave, “Honey?”

He gave me another shake “Honey!?”

“I’m sleeping. Leave me alone.”

“Honey? I thought you were doing yoga?”

I sat-up dazed, confused, and covered in drool.

“I must have fallen asleep in the middle of it. Can you help me up?”

And it is with that I found the miracle cure for insomnia ” Yin Tension” Yoga just before bed. But a word of warning you might just want to do it in bed. It will save you a very long sleepy crawl to your bedroom after your workout.

Have you ever fallen asleep while you were in the middle of an activity?

  1. That’s really funny! I have never fallen asleep in any pose but savasana in final relaxation, but I know what you mean about the yin of yoga. I love doing a class just in time for bedtime so I can just take that relaxation straight to bed! Namaste 🙂

  2. LOL – I am not sure I have ever been that tired. I sometimes cannot make it to the end of a movie, or a book, but other than that….I think the only time I have ever been thatexhausted, is when home with a newborn and middle of the night feedings. I have fallen asleep nursing more times than I can count. And waking up with a “drooling” breast, covered with cold breast milk is not a nice feeling at all.

    1. I have to agree it is not…I remember many long nights in the distance past and just being so tired. I also discovered that sleep deprivation is an infomercial dream. I was prone to shopping just to stay awake 😉

  3. Belle, this post had me chuckling! The visual of your curled up and asleep and your husband rousing your from deep slumber seems all too familiar. The tales I could tell you of the many techniques I have tried to employ only to succumb to a deep sleep. I think this may have to do with the fact that I’m sleep deprived. Nevertheless, I so appreciate the chuckle! 🙂

  4. Haha – at least you got deep into your pose! You know, I don’t think that I personally have fallen asleep during yoga (yet), but I’ve definitely been in a number of classes when suddenly, during the final resting pose, some guilty little yogi starts snoring. Then, when the teacher has us all sit up to do the whole Om/bowing/namaste shenanigans, said yogi often just continues snoozing contentedly until, compelled by awkwardness and pity, some gracious stranger starts poking at him/her.
    You’re not alone! 😉
