My Doomsday Prepper Score

I have a fascination with Doomsday scenarios! I love conspiracy theories and last year discovered Doomsday Preppers on the National Geographic channel.  It is a show that has taught-me the importance of stockpiling food, building a bug-out shelter, and developing my own private museum of weapons.

It was inevitable that when National Geographic appeared in my inbox this afternoon with the preview of  Season  2 Doomsday Preppers that I had to visit the web site. I discovered the Doomsday Prepper Quiz!

I confess I failed  miserably with 19/100 the only saving grace was that I am a weekend camper.  It estimated that I would only survive 1-2 weeks before meeting my inevitable demise!
The only tip it gave me:

Weapons are an excellent equalizer against threats to your security. One gun is a start, but two guns with a thousand rounds for each person is ideal. Standardizing your weapons to all use a basic ammo type (like .22 Caliber) simplifies ammo storage and reloading.

I guess it assumed that I would need security but it failed to realize the biggest threat to me is my clumsiness. I can see my demise by shooting myself in the foot and then suffering through some horrible infection which included gangrene. So when the time comes I just hope one of my friends has been secretly stockpiling food and will share their bug-out shelter with me.

Have you ever watched Doomsday Preppers? And do you have a bug-out shelter?

  1. I’m not sure if it’s this exact show I’ve seen before but I have watched one or two episodes of a show where people built shelters underground and stuff. It’s a bit crazy…

  2. I’ve never heard of this show. It sounds odd. Are these people sane?

We do not have a bugout shelter… although we have bugs that occasionally shelter in our home. Does that count?

  3. The folks on Doomsday Preppers are made to look insane. I bet the folks on the east coast wished they had prepped some. Food, water, subfreezing temp sleeping bags, batteries for their flash lights or like me oil lamps, cards and board games to pass the time, etc. not the underground shelters and what not. The government is not going to help you. Witness Katerina and now this. Don’t you understand that you need to help yourselves?

    1. I truly believe we need to be prepared for emergencies but it is amazing the lengths these people go to in the event something may or may not happen. I think there is a time to be ready but there also has to be balance in life.

      1. Yes it needs balance. Most prepper live the livestyle of just stocking up for emergencys. More than a three day supplies, example the East Coast. It has been 2 weeks and the government isn’t helping. I used to work as a shelter/warning specialist for a local EMA. Everything should have been in place the weekend before the Monday hit. Government also knew ( as well as the citizens ) that this was the second biggest storm ever.

    1. It’s true. The best thing is to be prepared to the best of your ability for things that are out of our control. But with that being said I think they take things way over the top.

Who Knows? Maybe they all know something I don’t…
