A Springtime Wish

As the snow begins to melt and the sun begins to shine several thoughts run across my mind. One is the inevitable ten pounds from winter hibernation and begin to focus on all of the things I hate about me. I am guilty about making jokes about my muffin-tops, dingle dangles, and wobbly bites all of the things I wish I could airbrush away.

I listen to my friends do the same as the spring air hits, all on a diet, all trying to be fit, before we put on the first tank top of the season.

But what if we didn’t set such a high standard for ourselves? Think of the negative energy we focus on putting ourselves down when we could be using it to lift our spirits up.

What do you love about you? Is it the cool glass of water that makes your skin glow? Is it your strong arms open and ready to offer a tender embrace? Is it your laughter after a game of tag with the kids? It is the little things we need to cherish and love!

My springtime wish for you and me is to love ourselves a little more! It’s time we let our confidence blossom from within letting our beautiful hearts shine out this spring.

Lets start today! What is one thing that you love about you? And how does it make you feel?

  1. I was just commenting earlier today how my children’s laughter sometimes makes me stop with a smile on my face and just enjoy the moment. I look at myself as a work in progress always but I try not to let it run my life and enjoy the little things everyday… like that first glorious sip of coffee in the morning or one of our stunning sunsets!!! I love Spring!!! 🙂

  2. That, my dear, is one helluva positive idea. And one nicely-done way to cop out from the workout 😉 :: bows to your genius::

I don’t tend to think of myself in the physical sense, perhaps I should. But to answer your question, what I love about me, and what I look for in the people around me, is generosity of spirit. It means they are upbeat, kind, generous with their time and money with those who need them, and open to change and to the opinion of others. They don’t have to be perfect all the time, neither do I, nor am I by a long shot, but more often than not, they have to err on the side of taking the high road.

    1. Hahaha! I think it is good to surround yourself with a positive tribe! And I think the people you chose in life reflect your kind spirit! Perfection is over-rated and can sometimes stall us from being who we are truly meant to be.

  3. It’s still time to take off the weight – except I’d better head for fifteen pounds. But what do I love about myself? The first thing that popped into my mind is my curiosity. I think that helps to keep me young more than anything else.

  4. Spring is always such a hopeful time of year for me. I love the bright colors that emerge from the winter browns and grays.

You are right about focusing on the good things we have in our lives. I try to remind myself of that when I am being hard on myself.

As for what I love about myself, I’d have to say my sense of humor. It comes in handy for helping me get over the things I don’t like about myself.

    1. You do have a fabulous sense of humor! I can definitely see it in your writing! Sometimes we can be so hard on ourselves but it get us nowhere…

The thing I love about spring is the change of colors, the warmth, and the feeling that things can be change. I think that is why I am so adamant that we need to focus on the good 🙂

  5. I love watching old couples walk hand hand, each supporting the other and trusting the other to keep from tripping or falling. Similar to what they probably did all their lives till that point. There’s something so overwhelmingly touching to see an old man and woman who are still so bound together in love, have overcome all obstacles together and faced all hurdles together so that they can finally relax and spend the remainder of their earthly days in each other company. Sometimes they look so happy, it seems like they don’t need anyone else. I think its just beautiful to see a love so strong, still existing in today’s world and every time I see such a couple, I fervently wish that I end up the same.

  6. I love that I can laugh at myself…

And you are so right about getting ready for bathing suit weather… I vowed yesterday not to have anymore chocolate at work… then the guy who buys it, brought a piece into my office… Epic Fail!

  7. Okay. Here’s my answer. I’m a messy sort of person who forever tries to make things tidy. I want everything to have a place and be in it, but for the life of me I find doing that almost impossible.

So I’m going to say that I love the fact that I know this about myself and can live with me as I am. Sometimes a scattered sort of person, sometimes an organized sort of person– always just me.

Yep, that’s what I love about myself today.

  8. good to see you back 😀

you haven’t told us one thing that you love about you …
what I love about you is the lovely comments you leave for every one without fail.

one thing I love about myself is my ability to express my feelings in writing 🙂
It at least helps keep me from going insane 😀

  9. My optimism! I will honestly die without it! Love the post!

Also, I am back so expect regular blog stalking 😀 haha x

  10. My word for 2012 is Acceptance and I am embracing it every day and to be more kind to myself. This includes being open to the possibilities and just celebrating more!!! Thanks for sharing – Have a Great Day:)

  11. I love my abilities to shine through most situations that come my way. May get a bit ruffled but overall, it’s all good. Life.
I always feel good when I visit here. Thanks! 🙂

  12. Well, for a start, it’s Autumn here, so I’m preparing for hibernation. My Summer hair is falling out and (hopefully) I’m starting to grow my Winter coat. Our Summer wasn’t very hot this year but it was very wet, so I stayed at home a lot and didn’t really lose all the weight that I put on to keep me warm last Winter. Which is a good thing because it means that I don’t have to put on as much again this year. I’ve just bought a new dressing gown with a hood for Winter and some new Autumn shoes. They are my birthday presents to myself. I thought that I deserved them.

  13. Gah…complimenting myself…it buuurrrnnnnsss!!! Complimenting others? Yeah, I like that. I love this post, you are awesome, you make me smile and lift my spirits. Ha…so there. 🙂
