Wasting Away in Margaritaville

[Momma Be Thy Name serves up a daily dose of humor with her views on relationships, politics, and motherhood.  She asks “Where would you like to spend your retirement?”]

“A Margarita anyone?”

As I pour another one into my glass and serve up a plate of nachos to my friends.  We will lounge by my pool on our house over-looking the river. It will be my summer home. The place I retreat to spend time with friends and family. We will laugh, drink, and flaunt our cellulite heinies in our polka dot bikini’s laying in the sun.

At the age of seventy my husband and I will hopefully be retired with a handful of grand kids visiting us on summer vacations. It will be our home that will welcome all of our family friends. Our bar will be well stocked with the proper necessities to keep the retirement party hopping tequila, lime, ice, and salt.

It is in the winter we will leave our splendid home and travel to unknown lands such Boca Raton. It is out of necessity we will need to escape the winter cold and keep enjoying the margaritas.

My cellulite can’t handle being pale and withered in goose bumps for a whole winter…

We will enjoy the high life of Boca Raton in our velour sweat suits  and visors! I will learn how to golf, play shuffle board, and take the fellas for all of their cash in late night games of poker.

The golden years will be my time to have fun in the sun!

How do you envision yourself when you retire?

  1. Are you joking about Boca? If not, we may be neighbors! I know that is where I will end up one day, or a neigboring town. Afterall, it is the next place a Long Islander goes! 🙂

  2. One of my friend’s and I have a very detailed plan for our retirement. We will be crazy cat (and dog) ladies, living in a ramshackle house. I have a list of things I will do to cement my eccentric reputation – my favorite is that I will display scarecrows in the front yard, made from laundry I’ve stolen from my neighbors’ clotheslines.

  3. You know, I didn’t have my first margarita until last year? Crazy, I know. My husband and hope to retire somewhere, warm, too. Accessible to the kids and grandkids, for sure, but also OUR home, you know? Maybe it’s because I’m in the thick of it, right now, but the perfect retirement for me would include warm weather, cooking and cleaning done by someone else, and a room across which I can walk without risk of Lego-related injury!

  4. A luxury yacht, in the Carribean, drifting desultorily through the web of tiny, exotic, islands, docking by shaded, white sanded beaches, visiting tiny markets for the days’ fresh fist catch. Nightly barbecues on board, hosting friends who have joined us for their holidays, sipping our strawberry Collins’ as the sun goes down…. then starting again the next day. Aaaah – a girl can dream!!
