Dreaming the Day Away

My husband and I made a pact after staying our first frigid winter in Edmonton that we would save for one sunny destination each year. We vowed never to go through a full winter without  a break ever, again. The lack of vitamin D, staring at the grey skies, and getting excited over the weather going up to -5C is depressing.

It is enough to drive anyone crazy!

It is with excitement I will be packing my bags for fun in the sun and lounging poolside enjoying the warm breezes of Punta Cana. I am also taking A Blogger Tip A Day with me. Since it is a 365 day project it means that there is no time to stop blogging.

The tips I have are wonderful! But many of them cannot go on vacation with me!  I will not be cleaning closets, organizing fridges, and hopefully not battling a pesky virus.

However, I would love your vacation tips!

  • What are your favorite things to pack?
  • How do you maintain a fitness routine?
  • Eating healthy on vacation – is it possible?
  • Is there a certain drink or food I should try?
  • What are your favorite activities and things to do on vacation?

Please share your tips with me in the comments or if you are to shy to comment please feel free to drop me a line at abloggertipaday@yahoo.ca.

If your tip is chosen your name will be placed  a monthly draw for a twenty-five dollar I-Tunes gift card. So get those tips rolling in!

The Willpower Instinct

Kelly McGonial gives you the scientific reasoning as to why we act on our impulses and refrain from making positive choices in The Willpower Instinct.  It is an eye-opening account into the human mind as we struggle with the natural instinct of fight or flight and how it can hinder the basic choices we make in this world.

the will power instinct

She points out:

Our human nature includes both the self that wants immediate gratification, and the self with the higher purpose.  We are born to be tempted, and born to resist. It is just as human to feel stressed, scared, and out of control as it is to find the strength to be calm and charge of our choices.

One of the many tools she gives the reader is to help fine tune their  willpower by  walking away from the decision to eat the last cupcake or make the impulse purchase on a designer pair of shoes. It is necessary to reflect on how that small one choice will be of assistance to our future self. Will our future self be pleased to battle the muffin top? Or will they be happy with the designer purse in the closet instead of a healthy investment plan? It is by taking a moment to view yourself in the future it helps you say no to the things holding you back in the present.

She also recognizes that many of us are bound to fail in the choices we make because immediate gratification takes over in our lives. The key is to recognize your failure and be kind to yourself moving forward in attempt to reach your goals. It is by allowing yourself compassion and forgiveness that you are able to recognize your mistakes in order to forge ahead towards the future making wiser choices.

Kelly McGonial, demonstrates in ten stages how we can make self-control work in order to reach our goals whether it be to write the next chapter of the novel, to lose ten pounds, or to just stop procrastinating from that last household project. It is after reading The Will Power Instinct which will enable  you to evaluate how you make your decisions and how the impulse choices you make could be holding you back from success.

How do you achieve your life goals? Are you kind to yourself when you sometimes fail?

The Happy Food Medium

I love food! Any kind of food! But the most tempting of all is junk food!

Now I’m trying be a new and improved healthier me! I have been visiting a lot of health bloggers to discover their tips and tricks for staying on the right track.

The key for me is to find balance with my diet and recognize that when I am having a bad day I should opt for the celery sticks instead of the ketchup chips.  I know I need to find my happy food medium!

Do you have a positive relationship with food? How do you stay on the healthy track?

Mag the Egg Talks Body Image

Mag is doing me a great favor! She is taking a break from fun on the beach in St.Marteen to discuss body image. I know we are breaking some rules in her contract agreement about pay and blog space-time. But she felt it was important to talk about how hard you ladies have been on yourself this spring!

However, her recent on and off again relationship with Roggy Stewart is off-limits…

Me: Thank you for taking the time from your beautiful vacation to talk  with me! I love your choice in egg-suit selection. It looks mermilicious!

Mag:  Thank you darling!  It’s Vegasace!  Doneggalla made it just for me!  You know when you called so frustrated about all of these women complaining about their soft rolls and jiggly thighs. I knew I had to say something!

Me:  So what do you say to these beautiful ladies that are so hard on themselves?

Mag: I say smarten the heck up! I’m an egg I would kill to have arms to swim with and legs to run. Just imagine my status in carton-wood. But instead I work with what I got! I have big hair and luscious lips! I have an expiration date so I have to work everything I got!

Me: I love that you point out we have an expiration date! So how do we work it?

Mag: The best way to work it is hold that chin-up, shoulders back, and strut it. The best looks come from confidence! We all expire at  one point so why don’t  enjoy what we have!

Me: But what if they say that doesn’t matter! I still have fifty pounds to lose? Or to me who is currently over her BMI?

Mag: Are you exercising? Are you smiling? Are  you enjoying good food? If you focus on your goals the weight will come off. But have fun doing it!

Me: What do you mean?

Mag:  The next time you are exercising instead of focusing  on how your thighs jiggle while you run! Don’t even get me started on that… Focus on your breath, how good it feels, how strong your heart is, and your perspective about yourself will change.

Me: Thank you Mag! I really appreciate the time you made to talk with me!

Mag: Not a problem!  Margarita?

Me: Of course! Now off record what is going on with you and Roggy?

Will you take Mag’s Advice? What positive advice would you like to add to the conversation?

A Springtime Wish

As the snow begins to melt and the sun begins to shine several thoughts run across my mind. One is the inevitable ten pounds from winter hibernation and begin to focus on all of the things I hate about me. I am guilty about making jokes about my muffin-tops, dingle dangles, and wobbly bites all of the things I wish I could airbrush away.

I listen to my friends do the same as the spring air hits, all on a diet, all trying to be fit, before we put on the first tank top of the season.

But what if we didn’t set such a high standard for ourselves? Think of the negative energy we focus on putting ourselves down when we could be using it to lift our spirits up.

What do you love about you? Is it the cool glass of water that makes your skin glow? Is it your strong arms open and ready to offer a tender embrace? Is it your laughter after a game of tag with the kids? It is the little things we need to cherish and love!

My springtime wish for you and me is to love ourselves a little more! It’s time we let our confidence blossom from within letting our beautiful hearts shine out this spring.

Lets start today! What is one thing that you love about you? And how does it make you feel?

Winter Bon-Bons Vs. Summer Bikini

I have a love/hate relationship with food! I love it because it tastes so good and I hate it because it has away of making my muffin tops expand to new heights. In the winter bon-bons are a glorious treat to chase the cold away.

It is this past month my body has sunk into winter hibernation mode which means it is bon-bon season.  My body craves fat and sugar to keep me warm over the winter months. However,  I am going on a beach vacation to escape the snow and the bon-bon gorging season will have to wait until I get back!

So this week I am up to my neck in  push-ups, buns of steel, and salad. I am taking this pledge that I will avoid the candy, the wine, and the red meat. I vow within the next few weeks I will squeeze my body into some form of swimwear.

If I fail this pledge than forgive me because I will be laying in a pile of bon-bon wrappers and  scouring the internet for that perfect Spanx bikini.

How do you approach the bon-bon season?

My Saggy Bits List

I know I need to eat healthy, workout, and live a balanced life. Maybe it’s the change in the moon because I feel like Howling every time I read “You Know Your Ready When to Lose Weight”  or “How to Drop Ten Pounds in a Month.” I mean really do I need to look at another air brushed super model.

So my muffin tops and I made our own list in retaliation of this healthy feel good wellness business! It’s called My Saggy Bits List….

1) I did purchase a cheap cotton shirt and yes it did shrink in the dryer! My muffin top has not expanded!

2) I do not like Green Smoothies. No matter how you spin it. I do not love them. I would much rather eat salad for breakfast!

3) Spanx was created for muffin tops.  Enjoy it’s sausage encasing glory and strut those skinny jeans!

4) LuluLemon only has sales for size 2′s! And it’s annoying! Why does size 2 always get all the glory and the savings?

5) My thighs rub together! Isn’t that suppose to be normal?

6) One cookie a day keeps me happy.

7) Water! Water with lemon! Water with berry infused flavors!  Sometimes I just want a frickin coke!

8) I  have a fear if I keep digesting the chia seed my bowel movements may morph  into a chia pet.

9) A jelly doughnut is heaven on a cloudy and cold wet day.

10) My latest running catastrophe involved tripping over a tree root  and having some one on one intimate attention with the dirty ground. Where is the fitness glory in that tale? Sometime it’s best just to stay home and watch the View.

Now that I have vented, hammered my scale, I’m beginning to feel much better. I think I will go eat my celery stick with goat cheese.  It tastes so much better than the salty scrumptious goodness of chips.

Is there anything you would like to add to the list? I don’t want to be the only one that vents….
