On our fifth day we ported in St. Martin and it was love at first sight! As we exited the dock the sound of sweet Caribbean music softened our ears and we strolled to the relaxed vibe of the island.
It was our last destination and all we wanted to do was to have fun on the beach with a cold beer and enjoy the sunny breezes of the Caribbean. We booked our excursion to Orient Beach and were shuttled to our destination.
We were warned by one local as we hit the beach on the French side of the island, “On the Dutch side is where you lose your money and on the French side is where you lose your clothes.” We both chuckled as we exited the bus.
It was there we lounged in our beach chairs, splashed in the water, and strolled along the beach.
We knew one part of the beach was au naturel but as we passed the rocks from the clothed area to the nudist. I wasn’t paying attention..
“Are you sure you want to keep going?”
I looked puzzled, “What do you mean?”
“It’s the nudist part!”
“So! What are you scared of a little penis?”
Mr. MBA gave me the look, I chuckled, how bad could it be, a few nude ladies! It’s not like Mr. MBA would ever have a problem with that… Oops! I was wrong! I discovered my first time stepping on the nude beach was men! Lots of old men! Naked! Letting their flamingos all hang out!
They all stood with pride, content to let their birds flap in the breeze, frolic in the ocean, and let it all swing to the Caribbean music. Perhaps, I’m more North American than I like to believe…I blushed, looked straight ahead, and kept walking. I didn’t want to seem prudish by just stepping over the rocks and heading back to the comforts of our bikini beach.
I felt as if I stepped into another persons private world. It was this world in which I was acting as an unwilling to participant lacking in the full freedom of expression that these men seemed to experience in their lack of attire.
Mr. MBA chuckled, “You should take it off!”
“I don’t think so…”
“Why not? When in Rome…”
“I like to give the illusion that my girls stand at attention.”
And with that we headed back to our end of the beach, enjoying another Corona, another splash in the water, and erasing the images of old frolicking birds playing in the ocean.
Would you ever consider taking it off?

LOL! Ummm, I don’t think so. The “everyone else is doing it” or “no one’s going to look” is bull because, I’m sorry, but I would definitely look. I would be lying if I said I wouldn’t. Also, I don’t find penis the most attractive thing to look at, but like a bad accident on the freeway, I would have to look. Better if I just keep it on.
LOL! How could you not look! If someone is proud to flaunt there penis, of course, you’ll take a peek. It’s like pretending not to stare at an accident :O However, I also prefer to glance at the more attractive features of a man like a strong chest… a plain old flapping bird never does it for me!
Flamingos!!! Too funny!
I must be a closet voyeur because nude beaches do appeal to me. Personally I prefer the non-genital parts of the anatomy to savor. A flopping penis, no matter how good looking the guy just isn’t appealing. (Regardless of my sexual orientation, I wouldn’t shy away from looking at nude men or women.) What’s interesting is that in my professional life I saw flesh all the time, and it meant nothing except as parts of the whole person who needed care.
To answer your question, I wouldn’t take it off, even I was in great shape, because I’m just too damn body shy.
I’m very body shy as well and just don’t have the guts to do it!
I wish I was more of a free spirit when it comes to naked body. But I do blush and get a little uncomfortable…I guess it’s something I need to work on
St Martin looks beautiful..I’ve never been there. And I would definitely always sport a bathing suit at all times. Though raised in Italy and having been to several nude beaches, I’m still a conservative deep at heart. And that works for me.
It is an amazing spot! I want to rent a villa and go back next year! I would love to have more time to explore the island…I’m becoming quite the bird watcher
So, growing up in Italy and having been to several nude beaches…Do any of your friends go in the buff? If so,I wonder how it feels to be that liberated?
You appear to be fascinated about liberating nudity… Have you ever worked in a hospital? ….Lot’s of free-floating frames on every floor….

I am very fascintated and wonder how liberating it could be? It must feel great not to give a hoot about your cellulite and just let it all hang out! I wish had the bravado for it!
I’ve never worked in the hospital. I don’t think I have the stomach for the work nor the blood
ohhh…Tough one… I don’t know…I think I probably could…. I once lay on the beach in Bermuda in my bra (we couldn’t check in and our bags were locked in the lobby). I have no desire to go to a nude beach. I would think (and you proved it) that the people who are showing it, are not the ones I would ever want to see (and may not be able to erase from my mind)
hahaha! It’s pretty much a definite that no Adonis emerged from the tranquil water
I have done the same thing in my bra for the same reason. But bras are sometimes just as colourful as a bikini so I just assumed no one could tell the difference…
Sounds awkward.
Nothing is ever awkward after a few drinks
haha, when I was 21 my husband (then boyfriend) and I went on vacation to the Dominican Republic & I took off my top for about 5 minutes. I wanted to get some photos of me from behind looking out at the ocean – I thought it was “artsy” (and they actually did come out really cool)….but that 5 minutes was all I lasted! : )
Very brave! I bet the photos look fantastic! I love the DR it’s one of my favorite getaways!
Would I consider taking my clothes off?? Well, I do every time I enter the shower….

You just made me chuckle! I guess when you put it that way…
I have been to St. Martin many times and really enjoy Orient Beach! Love the Flamingo thing. Very funny! My wife and I “thought” we would be a bit shy, but once you get there – the clothes come off very fast and there is really no big deal. The key is not so much looking at the other people as much as it is just enjoying the freedom, the breeze and when you do talk with people, they tend to be very down to earth, funny and non-judgemental. We’re heading back there in February!! Can’t wait!
You sound like a true free spirit! I wish I was as brave! I loved the beach and look forward to heading back in the future!
Yup, take them off as much as I can. Wife doesn’t but I do. As the previous poster said it’s not about looking at other people but enjoying the feeling of being at one with nature, the feeling of the sun, wind and water on all of your skin. A connection to our primal past. That being said I’m gregarious too and so enjoy the company of other like minded people.
Thank you for your thoughts and comments! I wish I was brave as you! It must be wonderful to be able to get that close to nature without any inhibitions! Maybe someday I’ll take the leap!
